Safety Month: Emergency Information

June 18, 2024

“911.  What’s your emergency?”

It’s a call we all fear having to make, but we all know that we’ll probably have to make such a call at some point during our lifetimes.

While you can never be fully prepared to face an emergency, there are tools that can be put into place to help you maintain some semblance of calm when an emergency takes place.

  1. Developing emergency action plans can help ensure everyone in the household, including you, know what steps need to be taken when an emergency happens.  Examples of these plans would be:

    1. Fire Emergency Plan – This is a great resource: How to make a home fire escape plan | NFPA

    2. Seizure Action Plan: Seizure Action Plan

  2. Posting emergency numbers by a landline and/or programming them into personal cell phones allows for quick response in case an emergency arises.  Some common numbers to keep readily available are:

    1. 911, or other emergency response number

    2. Local hospital

    3. Primary care doctor

    4. Poison control

  3. Have simple medical information readily available for EMS.  You can download and fill out this form  Emergency + File and gather other suggested documents.  Keep them in a folder on the refrigerator for easy access.  EMS will find this medical snapshot very helpful as they work to care for the person having a medical emergency.

We encourage each of you to complete these simple steps so that if and when an emergency happens, you have pieces in place to ensure that the best and quickest steps are taken to get the help that is needed.

Happy National Safety Month!
