Dr. Jeffrey M. Gelfand, MD, MAS

Medical Director, UCSF Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation Center


Dr. Jeffrey M. Gelfand is a neurologist who cares for patients with autoimmune and inflammatory neurological conditions, neurodegenerative conditions, and general neurological disorders. He serves as medical director of the UCSF Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation Clinic. 

Gelfand earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology at UCSF. He also has a master of advanced studies degree in clinical research from UCSF.

UCSF recognized Gelfand's excellence in teaching with the Robert B. Layzer Award in 2014 and with an award from the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators in 2015. He was inducted into the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators in 2020.

Gelfand is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and serves as chair of the AAN's autoimmune neurology section.
